The study is intended to identify any gaps in the implementation process of information technology in the TTPS. Based on the findings, this thesis also proposes to offer recommendations to address the gaps and improve how the TTPS can effectively utilize information technology. There is also limited literature in the area of law enforcement and information technology, especially in the Caribbean.  It is intended, therefore, to add to the development of such literature and be considered groundwork literature for the other CARICOM law-enforcement agencies that are also initiating the use of information technology in their operations to assist with the detection of violent crimes. The study paper will allow the researcher to establish the real sequence of events, providing an effective insight into the relationship between information technology and the detection of violent crime.

I enjoyed reading the research articles associated with the study. The research articles enhanced my learning and understanding of how technology is utilised in the detection of violent crimes by law enforcement agencies in the United States.  For instance, the Chicago police department implemented License Plate Readers to detect any stolen or wanted vehicles traversing along the highway. The breakthrough in DNA analysis- genetic genealogy has led to the solving of cold cases in California. Generally, the Real Time Crime Center (RTCC) which is similar to the local Operational Command Center (OCC) is a centralised location that integrates technology such as live streaming that could accelerate the solving of a crime by providing investigative and intelligence leads.

This research is categorised under Sustainable Development Goal 16 (SDG-16) which focuses on promoting peace, justice and strong institutions. The SDG-16 aim to significantly reduce all forms of violence and work with governments and communities to end conflict and insecurity. It also seeks to address the trafficking of firearms (UNDP).

This SDG-16 is important to the research as it tackles both the socio-economic development that is adversely affected by the infiltration of illicit weaponry as well as the high rate of violent crimes that affect a population of approximately 1.4 million. The objective of this goal promotes that the residents of the country need to feel a sense of security and have confidence in the administration of justice for criminal cases involving victims of violent crimes. Similarly, the research provides recommendations that can diminish the overall impact of violent crimes by revolutionising the approaches or techniques employed to solve crimes using technology. As a result, there could be a direct correlation between enhancing the feeling of safety and reducing the influx of firearms in the nation.
